Who we are
We are a non-profit group who practice bobbin lacemaking. We promote the learning of lace history, and all types of lace techniques. We offer workshops open to all, as well as demonstrations to the public. We are a charter member of the International Organization of Lace. We meet bi-monthly to practice our craft together and offer at least one workshop per year.

Our History
The Western Reserve Lace Society originated from the efforts of Arlene McKinnell, an avid bobbin and needle lacer in the Cleveland/Akron area. Arlene promoted lacemaking from the mid 1970’s onward. Mentioning in an interview with a local paper that she wanted to start a lace club, she got so many responses that she helped create the Western Reserve Lace Society. She was a founding member and served as President for many years, teaching at the meetings and writing many newsletters. In 1981 she was among the nine charter members to see their group accepted as the sixth chartered chapter of the I.O.L.I. The original nine charter members were Dorothea Kowallek, Marjorie Bruemmer, Lottie Wygonik, Genie Ryan, Anna Bartel, Adele Duffy, Roberta Jefferies, Margaret Arnold and Arlene McKinnell.
